Until Peace Comes

Until Peace Comes takes the listener back to war-torn Saxony during the Thirty Years’ War. With sacred vocal chamber music by masters like Schütz, Schein, Scheidt and Hammerschmidt, we go through grief and despair but also hope and trust. We thus bridge four centuries to deliver a powerful message for our present day.

A special mention goes to Johann Hildebrandt, a little-known composer today, whose original texts in the collection Krieges-Angst-Seuftzer astonish with their poignant pacifist message and form a centerpiece of the program.

Mazzocchi: a portrait

This monographic portrait highlights the work of the prominent composer Domenico Mazzocchi (1592 – 1665). Based in Rome and working for several important figures (Pope Urban VIII, the Farnese and Aldobrandini families), he composed a number of collections of vocal music for small settings.

Catchy songs, dramatic laments and virtuosic arias take the stage one after another, creating a surprising palette of colors and ambiences. The baroque guitar and lirone are special guests, and paired with instrumental music by Girolamo Frescobaldi (1583–1643), they promise a perfect night in Rome.

Generations
/coming soon/

With Generations, Primo Getto comes back to its roots: German baroque.

Bach, the father of all music? We beg to differ! Primo Getto explores the two generations which preceded Johann Sebastian. The subtle transition to middle baroque, from masters like Schütz and Schein to the first cantatas by Bruhns, Buxtehude and Tunder. For this program, we are joined by two violins, organ and theorbo.
